Additionally, the castle is home to a vast and exquisite art museum with exhibits in varies porcelain, painting, tapestry, and armory collections. The extensive porcelain collection ranges from 17th and 18th century with Chinese, Japanese, Dutch, and German origins. Over 700 paintings from the princes of Salm-Salm line the walls with Dutch, Spanish, Flemish, and Italian masters; to include Rembrandt, Jan van Goyen, Gerard ter Borch, Murillo, Salvator Rosa, as well as, J. Breughel the Younger. Historically, the Museum Wasserburg Anholt is considered the largest private collection of art in North Rhine-Westphalia. Another exhibition space of 1500 m² features furniture from the Renaissance and Baroque era.

The splendor of past centuries is viewed in the parade hall, marble room, and knight’s hall. Each work of art contributes to the profound cultural uniqueness only found at the Museum Wasserburg Anholt. Besides, a historical armory and dungeon await visitors in the “Dicken Turm” which translates into “Thick Tower”.

Biotope Wildlife Park “Anholter Schweiz”

It takes approximately 5-minutes to drive from the Romantik Parkhotel Wasserburg Anholt to the 56-hectare site of the Biotope Wildlife Park “Anholter Schweiz”. This wild park is the perfect place for all animal lovers. Look forward to more than 300 animals living in large, animal-friendly enclosures and aviaries, including lynxes, wolves, bison, otters, raccoons, wild boar, and red deer – a total of around 50 animal species. At the heart of the “Anholter Schweiz” Biotope Wildlife Park is the true-to-scale replica of Lake Lucerne, to include the “Swiss cottage”. The wild park offers easily accessible paths, which are designed to accommodate wheelchair users, and routes navigating nature seekers past various enclosures in the wildlife park.

The Golf Club Anholt

The Golf Club Anholt is only a 10-minute walk from the Romantik Parkhotel Wasserburg Anholt. The golf course offers a first-class golf course experience for everyone interested in the sport. Both, the competitive player and golfer looking for relaxation and fun will leave the course in high spirits. The golf course is surrounded by the Watercastle Anholt and the Biotope Wildlife Park, Anholter Schweiz, as well as, two river crossing. Moreover, the varied square architecture is known for its special characteristics. All golfers will be challenged by a vast variety of obstacles, which are formed by ponds, rivers, trees, and bunkers. A long and precise game will be required. Overall, the 18 fairways are 5314 m long for female golfers and 6041 m long for male golfers.

The training amenities also meet the highest requirements. The driving range has a total of 28 tees, 9 of which are covered. For the short game, there are objectives from 2.5 m up to 70 m. There are also target greens at 50, 75, 100, and 125 m for the middle game.

Around the Anholt castle

Since the Watercastle is extremely close to the Lower Rhine and the Netherlands, many interesting destinations for leisure activities are available. The Wasserburg Anholt is conveniently located on the A3 which resembles an ideal starting point for day trips into the surrounding areas. On the German side of the border and within a 30-minute drive, you can reach the impressive Roman Museum and the associated archaeological park in Xanten on the Rhine. Are you interested in the ancient world? How does a Roman weekend comprise of lectures and tours sound to you? Children up to the age of 18 have free admission, as well as, adolescents can look forward to exciting special entrance prices.
